I’m starting off the new year by blogging about this pretty desk that was one of the easiest projects I have done in a while. I found this really cool vintage desk on the LetGo site that was priced a little higher than I wanted to pay. But after a couple of weeks sitting with no offers, the seller finally accepted a fair price, as long as I could pick it up that day. So on my lunch break, I was able to sneak away and finagle the desk into my Jeep.
Truthfully, I wanted to do something fun and step out of my comfort zone. I’m also still trying to downsize my paint collection and I thought this desk would be perfect for the couple of cans of Rustoleum’s Vintage Blush spray paint I picked up from Wal-mart. Yes, you can paint furniture with spray paint, in fact this isn’t the first piece I’ve painted with spray paint. The key to making the finish last is of course the prep. Sand and clean really well.
The color is a soft mauve/blush kind of pink. I like this color because it’s not a bold or loud and obnoxious pink, instead it is very soft and faded pink and blends into a vintage kind of look. After two coats, I distressed a little with my orbital sander and just let it do it’s own thing.
I thought these ivory glazed knobs would be the perfect addition to the desk. They aren’t super bling-y but they fit just right.
One of the coolest things about this desk is the original inkwell and pen rest this desk has. I lightly sanded the drawer and polished it with Fusion Mineral Paint’s Hemp Oil Wax, to give it a soft, clean luster. It’s definitely something I’ve had the chance to work on before.
Although pink isn’t necessarily a best seller in this area, this desk was sold to a nice guy who was buying this for his daughter as they just moved to the area and he wanted to surprise her. I love that my vision met it’s intent, and I just hope I get brave enough to use more colors like this in the future.
