Happy Sunday everyone! The sun is setting here on a beautiful but hot day here in Virginia and I’m scrambling to catch up on the online side of my business. While I really enjoy painting more than I do taking photos, listing and blogging, I find that me sharing my tutorials and tips have really helped some of my readers and followers, especially on my Instagram page. One of the cutest pieces I have ever worked on just happens to be this scalloped end table I painted in Country Chic Paint in “Vanilla Frosting” and used their newest glaze, “Slate,” to stain the top.

I have rarely seen scalloped furniture but I just find something so dainty and cute about the way these scallops take center stage. This table is fairly large for an end table, but I can also see it being a small art desk in a kids room, or a coffee table in a small space like an apartment or dorm.
Since this was one of my smaller projects, prep was very quick and easy. Here is a list of things I did and products I used to prep this piece:
The Prep:
- Remove all drawers and vacuum with shop vac.
- Scuff sand base and drawer fronts with 150 grit sanding pads.
- Strip sand top with orbital sander starting at 80, 120, 150 and finished at 180.
- Clean with Krud Kutter and hot water.
- Tape drawer edges and cover top with contractor paper.
I sprayed about 3 coats of Country Chic Paint in Vanilla Frosting, and treated for some small bleed through spots with shellac. Then I sealed with 3 coats of Varathane Crystal Clear Polyurethane for protection. I had these matte black round knobs in my stash for a long time now. I thought they would be the perfect contrasting accent for this table.
I knew I wanted the top to be a weathered gray color. So I used Country Chic Paint’s newest glaze in the color “Slate” to stain the top. I had to apply multiple applications, but I LOVE the final look and how much warmth actually comes through with the glaze. I applied thin coats using a foam brush and wiped back and I’m loving the long wood grain accented in the gray.
Finally, I knew that I had to save the best part for last. Drawer liners are always the last thing to get done on my pieces because I can’t ever decide on one until after everything else is done. Even though this table look very feminine in shape, I wanted it to be modern and classic. I’m still overstocked on this buffalo check paper from last Christmas but it looks great as an accent in these drawers doesn’t it? It’s the perfect modern farmhouse color palette!
So what do you think? Ready to try some of Country Chic’s Newest Glaze color? I highly recommend it for small projects and stained wood like our top! Is your buffalo check paper just wrapping paper?

Yes it is! I usually buy out Home Goods or TJ Maxx when they have this paper during the holidays.
