This little Hepplewhite end table was one of the best roadside finds I have come across in my days of roadside shopping. I wasn’t even planning on going out to look during bulk pickup day, but this little guy was just waiting for someone to scoop him up. So I did.
Here it was mid veneer peeling. I painted another similar end table a couple of years ago, and underneath the veneer we found a solid wood top that looked very pretty stained, so I decided to go for that look again. Aside from a good sanding and cleaning, there was really nothing else this table needed. In fact, this project took me all of about three hours, that includes stain and paint and poly dry time.
I used a custom mix of Fusion Mineral Paint’s Casement and Coal Black to get this creamy gray color.
I used my orbital sander to do a once over sanding. I wanted to go for a distressed look and I just let the sander decide where the paint was going to come off. The hardware was painted using the innie-minnie-miney-mo technique. Mo’s color ended up being Rustoleum’s Brilliant Gold.
The top has to be my favorite part of this little table. It took one coat of Dark walnut to bring out the character in this warm, rich wood. I also sealed it using HPTC in Satin.
I’ve loved this paper since I first found it. Im pretty sad that I only had one roll and I was coming up on the last of it but had just enough left to do three small drawers. The remainder of the paper will be used on a future project, but I loved how the silver and gold bicycles played on the tones of the paint and the hardware. I keep scouring Marshall’s and Home Goods but have yet to come across another roll.
Since we have closed our booth at Homestead we are now selling out of our home and on Etsy. I am happy to say this little guy found a home in Union Pier, Michigan and made shipping my first piece through Etsy very simple and hassle free. It was small enough to send through UPS. Hopefully we can keep the ball rolling with selling furniture from home!
