We are still in the grind with all the home projects, kids activities and full time jobs. A lot has happened since the last blog post but we can’t seem to make a dent in all the to-do lists. Blogging has been one way for me to get my work out there, but lately if feels as if there is no time in the day to sit down and write. Today my son’s baseball game was postponed so I’m taking advantage of the extra hours to bring you a project about a new milk paint color! Homestead House has released their “Swedish Collection” featuring six new milk paint colors. I’ve already showed you Kurbits Indigo and you can read that blog HERE. This color was one that truly took my by surprise as it really is a beautiful rusty clay shade. This color is “Dala Red.”

This blog post is going to be short, but I’m going to include a few photos to entice you into clicking over to the Fusion Mineral Paint website so you can see the step-by-step guide on how to recreate this look. Ill include a supply list for you here as well!
For now, take a look at the before shot:
This piece is just a regular old Ikea Hemnes 3-Drawer dresser that I found on Facebook Marketplace for a great deal. Don’t let the Ikea name fool you. Ikea does offer some solid wood pieces that are long lasting and durable for several years, which means they can be refinished over and over again. I’d highly recommend an IKEA piece if you are looking for a blank slate!
What I really love about this shade is how it isn’t your traditional bold red color. It definitely borders a deeper coral shade and has lots of pink undertones to it. In some lights it looks like a rusty red-orange color and I can see this color sprinkled in bohemian and grand maximalist decorated interiors.
I decided not to distress this piece. Even though milk paint has a tendency to naturally chip, it did not in this case because this piece was wood and sanded properly. That made for an extremely tight bond with the surface. Top it with a buttery wax finish and it’s so smooth!
And now to see the entire process STEP-BY-STEP, hop on over to the Fusion Mineral Paint blog and see the entire transformation from start to finish!
