Welcome to my blog!
Hi there! I am Crystal Sutton, owner and creator of The Driftwood Home. I started this business initially to supplement my income, but as time went on and I became more confident in my projects and experiences, I found myself helping a lot of people interested in furniture painting who, just like me, were starting out, on a budget with no idea where to begin. My hope is that somewhere out there, as another future DIY’er begins their journey to furniture revival, that they can stumble across my blog and take away some valuable lessons learned, inspiration, or just feel supported in knowing that we all start somewhere…we just need the courage to pick up that brush and paint something pretty!
A little about Crystal:
I’m originally from the Southwest (El Paso, Texas), but I’ve lived in several places thanks to the military. I have served over 15 years in the Air Force and plan to finish out my career while building my business at the same time. I am a tattooed metal-head, who likes to lift weights, obsess over historical battlegrounds and devour books three at a time. I have an obsession with anything apothecary including jars & beakers, rusty clocks, old books and vintage cameras.
Noah
This handsome little guy right here is the reason why I do what I do, both in my military career and in my business. He’s the blessing that brought me so much growth as a mama, as a woman, and as a business owner! During the “nesting” phase of my pregnancy, I wanted to create some artwork for his nursery and I found therapy in painting. One craft led to another, a few painted pieces of furniture in our house later…and here we are. He is the best thing that happened to me and I fully credit him with unlocking my passion for furniture refinishing.
Owners of two fur-babies | Willy Nelson & Halle Berry
These two were rescued from shelters. They say that when a dog looks you in the eyes, he’s giving you a hug. These two keep us locked in forever eye hugs. They are such wonderful companions!
Virginia living (for now):
While I love that the military has taken me to exotic and foreign places, I am hoping to make Virginia my permanent home. Suffolk and the Hampton Roads area have a deep rooted history that calls to my history buff heart.
