Happy New Year! It’s funny that I’m posting this as January comes to a close but if chaos was a lifestyle, I’d be a pro at living it. We have had very little time to slow down and relax, but January has so far proven to be a very productive month for us! We have done quite a bit of purging of unnecessary junk and things we’ve hung on to over the years. We’ve also sat and come up with some creative new scents for our candle line that will be coming very soon! But most exciting of all, is we’ve taken the time to weigh our priorities for our future, and we’ve started putting into place some plans to make those goals a reality. But that will be coming in a separate blog post…hopefully soon! For now I want to chat about this beautiful cool hue on this quaint dresser from the Swedish Collection of the Homestead House Milk Paint line. It’s called “Solstice Blue” and it’s so true to its name as it reminds you of the smokey blue sky in the winter months. Let me walk you through this project!

This blog post is going to be short, but I’m going to include a few photos to entice you into clicking over to the Fusion Mineral Paint website so you can see the step-by-step guide on how to recreate this look. Ill include a supply list for you here as well!
For now, take a look at the before shot:
I’ve had this piece for many years. In fact I actually got it in Texas and used it in my son’s room for a long time before I decided it needed a facelift and a new home. The original color on here is “Cathedral Taupe” milk paint and I absolutely adore the slightly chippy finish on it. I wanted to go for a layered chippy look with this color so I did very minimal prep to this piece.
My vision truly came through on this one. I really wanted to keep a chippy finish but wasn’t sure I could do that with a layer of paint on it. But having done very little prep beside a vacuum and a cleaning and a light sanding, the blue over white really shows an aged look and adds some texture to the finish.
I added some gold Rub ‘n Buff to the original cast iron hardware. I think it brings out more of those intricate details in the pulls and adds some contrast to the dresser. These Eastlake style pieces are always so classy and timeless, you can literally paint them, restore them, refurbish them for different purposes, etc., and they will always feel like an heirloom to pass down from room to room or kid to kid.
And now to see the entire process STEP-BY-STEP, hop on over to the Homestead House Milk Paint blog and see the entire transformation from start to finish!
