If you have ever been afraid to try anything bold, now is the time to put that fear aside and go full swing! I usually don’t paint with colors outside of neutrals unless a customer requests it, but with Country Chic Paint’s new lineup of their Spring Collection Colors, it makes it so hard not to paint EVERYTHING!

This table was a gift from mother in law. She really was trying to get rid of some furniture in her basement and we hauled this all the way from Northern Illinois to Texas. I was just waiting for the right color and when I saw “Reverie” I knew it was perfect. This table was a dark, dingy mohagany with a leather top that just had to go. I wanted the color to the highlight so we peeled back the mahogany and got to removing the adhesive veneer layer underneath.
Since mahogany is notorious for bleeding, I coated it with three coats of shellac. Then I sprayed three coats of Reverie, letting it dry atleast 4 hours between coats. I wanted to go for a more modern look so I didn’t plan on distressing. I had to do a few touchups of shellac in the recessed areas where I notieced some bleeding. But a quick fix of shellac and paint made them disappear.
Then I sprayed 3 coats of a General Finishes HPTC Satin topcoat, sanding with 320 grit paper between coats. Doing a fine sanding between your layers of topcoats gives you a more glossy look, especially if you have issues spraying gloss like I do. I opt for fine sanding a Satin topcoat and you get a finish that is tough as nails, but still smooth.
The feet are little brass caps that were easily removed. I originally had plans to polish them but there some damage that just didn’t clean up well, so I chose to spray them with Rustoelum’s Metallic Bright Gold spray paint instead. The tricky part was putting them back on, as I had lost a few of the original nails when I pulled them off. I ended up trimming gold brad nails to half their length and they fit perfectly!
Isn’t it amazing how a bold color can look so classy and elegant at the same time? These new colors from Country Chic Paint are definitely going to find themselves on a few more of my projects.
