Welcome back everyone! This is our first post since the official launch of our website and we are so excited because this post is not only features a gorgeous color, but it also gives us the chance to show off the other beautiful “blues” of the Fusion Mineral Paint palette. I’ve teamed up with five other very talented bloggers to host a giveaway! That’s right! At the end of this post you’ll receive all the details of how to enter the Fusion giveaway and win a chance to try some of this amazing paint for yourself!
Melanie of Lost & Found, Tara of Suburble, Linda of Q is for Quandie, Susan of Homeroad, and Becky of Beyond the Picket Fence all painted projects using a different Fusion Blue. The color I picked was “Seaside.”
Sadly, I accidentally deleted the last remaining “Before” photo I had of this cabinet that I purchased off Offerup. I have a bad habit of deleting my photos off my phone to make room for new ones and that one must have gotten lost in the mix. If you can picture dated, orange stain with a high-gloss finish and tacky brass batwing hardware then you’ve got the exact picture of what this was when I bought it. But because it was solid wood, I knew it would be easier to work with than veneer or laminate.
As it turns out this piece was quite heavy, very sturdy and had a high quality finish. It was originally meant to be used as a TV cabinet, but I thought that it would look great if we finished it off to be additional storage for books, linens, or personal treasures. Fusion gave us the opportunity to pick which blue we wanted to try out and I picked “Seaside” from the Michael Penney Collection. I loved how the doors had a Moroccan/Middle Eastern carve out and wanted to play up on that and went for a boho vibe.
After much design debate, I settled on this gorgeous Serpentine Damask design by Muhlenkott on Spoonflower. I am in love!
I sprayed this using my Earlex Hv5500. While Fusion paint does not have to be thinned, I thinned with filtered water at 10%. I used filtered water because the water here in San Antonio is hard and we don’t have a water softener yet, so I did not want the calcium to affect the paint color. I also thinned because I wanted light coats with distressing in between and to see if I loved it or hated it. Because the coverage of this paint is amazing, I only used two light coats before I had 100% coverage.
This color is so vibrant and beautiful! I was expecting a much darker color based on what the color looks like coming out of the jar, but I’ve learned to trust that each piece is different and that’s what makes it unique. The same color may be applied to different pieces and they can all look different based on the age, condition, type of surface, and prep.
I used an orbital sander to heavily distress and let some of the warmth of the stain shine through. You’ll notice this image is what I chose for my landing page because I love this shot!
We added a backing and a removable shelf. I love how the paper just pops against the gorgeous depth of this paint. Have I mentioned this might be my new favorite color? I also love that the doors swing all the way back so you can decide to leave it open or closed at any time.
I tried to stage the interior of this piece (which is why you see books in the corner), but I just decided to let the piece speak for itself and showcase the paint and paper combo.
Now I’m going to invite you guys to try this wonderful paint for yourself. And it’s a good thing Fusion is doing a giveaway to give you the chance to win it for free!!!

I love that you gave new life to one of these TV cabinets. You see so many of these being cast off because no one knows what to do with them now that TV’s are wider and flatter. You’ve inspired me to think twice the next time I see one of these for sale. I love that paper and the way it plays up the “Moroccan” feel of your piece. Lovely!
Team Sutton says
Thank you Linda! And you are absolutely right about these being cast off. I got it for a great deal, but I wanted to make it useful again and I know you can never have too much storage!
