Howdy friends! Strange to be posting a blog on a Wednesday evening, but this past week was spent taking a breather as we had a dear friend from out of town visiting. It got me thinking about how much down time I don’t have and how much I truly get done in a day, but I do miss lying around and binge watching shows sometimes. It was a much needed break, but after all that lounging, I’m ready to get back to some furniture. I got to thinking about this color that I fell in love with a few years ago during a Target run. As I was strolling through Magnolia Home’s aisle in Target, I came across a few cans of paint on the discount end caps. Most were black and neutral colors but this one caught my eye. The color is called “Weekend.”

I am one to typically choose neutral colors, especially for reselling. They just sell much quicker because people want a timeless look for their furniture. But this color drew me to it, not only for its rich, jewel tones, but also because I know paired with the right piece, this color can be timeless all on it’s own. I found that these early 1900’s Victorian style dressers are perfect pieces to dress up with some color.
I personally love the look of wood and paint together. These old pieces have beautiful wood grain that just needs to shine. I stained this using General Finishes “Java” Gel Stain and sealed with a Gel Top Coat.
This color is such a beautiful deep teal. It has bluish undertones that really bring out how moody this color is. While some people may be shy to use these colors in their home, it really reminds me of all the striking and deep colors most historical castles and homes use, especially in places where people tend to gather like dining and family rooms. Google a few images of historical, pubs, castles, and cottages and you’ll see shades like this everywhere!
These crystal knobs just seem to be the perfect choice for this piece. It’s simple and allows the color speak for itself. It highlights itself against the contrast of the chocolate colored wood.
The details make all the difference on a project like this. Adding a fun, coordinating paper is one way to make this whimsical while keeping it classy. While this project may seem like it was a lot of work, all the time it really took to get this look was…funny enough…one weekend. I truly hope you enjoyed seeing something other than neutral colors on your feed with this beautiful project!
