How I saved a thrift store book case with Fusion Mineral Paint

I love shopping thrift stores for furniture because you can really find some quality pieces amongst the junk. I say that with the utmost respect for people’s “donations” but some of the things you find at thrift stores leave you scratching your head. Also, the prices for some of their items has gone from outrageous to mortifying. In some cases it’s neck and neck with retail prices. I have left a lot of good pieces at thrift stores just due to the rise in prices but for this piece, I got truly lucky.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a “before” photo of this piece. But if you can picture sad, dusty orange oak with crusty glass, that’s basically what it looked like. Here is what it looks like after:

I really loved the compact size of this piece and the leaded glass insert. While glass does add a certain element of class to a piece, having this gold diamond detailing in the glass just took it to the next level.

Ash

The color I picked for this piece is one of the classics on the Fusion Mineral Paint Line. It’s called “Ash,” reminiscent of the charcoal carbon build up you find after fires. It is a deep grey with some blue undertone to it and it pairs beautifully with metallics.

ACCENTS

I really love to use peel and stick wall paper to dress up pieces that have a visible backing. China cabinets, bookcases, shelving units etc. are all perfect candidates for a fun pop of color and pattern with wallpaper. I wanted a complimenting color and pattern with Ash, so I picked a very basic black, white and grey gingham paper.

I really loved making over this barrister bookcase. It was definitely a tired piece that needed a little bit of love and paint truly makes an impact. I hope you loved this look as much as I did.
