Hey y’all! It’s hot as heck outside and I’ve found salvation from the heat wave indoors by finishing up some home projects I hope to blog about very soon. I’ve also been cleaning up and organizing my workshop (the hoard as I call it) and have come across some scrap parts and pieces I completely forgot I had. Which got me thinking about my Frankenstein projects!
To recap…my Frankenstein projects were literally pieces built with bits and scraps of other projects, including leftover paints mixed together to make custom colors. It took me back to this hutch I created last year (sorry…forgot to blog about it) and painted in “Elegance” by Country Chic Paint.

I would have taken a “Before” photo but it literally would have been a pile of wood junk.
We put our building skills to the test with this piece. Sometimes all it takes is a little imagination and elbow grease and wha-la! I present to you the Elegant “Frankenstein Hutch!” I used leftover leg parts and salvaged wood to make the base. I wanted the front to resemble the standard farmhouse style table so it was pretty easy to create with the two turned legs up front and the straight wood cuts in the back. The hutch top was a remnant from another piece, but we added a bottom shelf so that it can be hung on the wall.
I sprayed the bases with matte black spray paint I had lying around. I made sure to concentrate on the areas I wanted to distress. Then I sprayed two coats of Country Chic Paint in the color Elegance. This is probably one of my favorite colors on the CCP line. It’s a very duck egg blue with just the slightest hint of green.
I used my orbital sander to rough it up in areas and give it a rustic and chipped appearance. It worked really well on the details of the legs and around the flat areas. Then I sprayed three coats of my favorite satin polyurethane to protect it.
I think this piece is perfect for a small cottage or home that needs a place to display all your pretty china without taking up too much space. I especially love pieces that can hold your favorite collections and still function with plenty for storage.
What do you think? Have you ever made a Frankenstein piece?
