Hey y’all! I’m catching up after working on lots of customs this last month and I’m finally getting around to posting something about furniture. Now that my busy season is approaching, it’s going to be difficult to squeeze in time to blog between furniture projects, candle making and the Etsy store. So I’m going to squeeze in as much as I can, even if it is smaller projects like this sweet little chest painted in “Ever After” by Country Chic Paint.

Luckily I was able to find a before photo! As you can see, it’s got modern lines and hardware, but it was in rough shape.
It definitely needed a lot of work and one of the things that I noticed right away was some of that decorative trim missing around the feet on one of the sides. It went into my garage for over 2 years before I decided what to do with it. Actually now that I think of it, I got this right before my husband deployed in 2016.
Here she is all done up in this pretty Lavender color called “Ever After” which happened to be one of Country Chic Paint’s 2017 Fall Limited Edition Colors. But before this little chest could look like this, I had to tackle all of the issues it had during prep. Here is a consolidated list of steps I took and products I used to get this finish:
The Prep
- Remove hardware from drawers/remove drawers from chest.
- Vacuum every nook and cranny with ShopVac.
- Sand top with various grits 120/150/200.
- Sand sides with 150 grit to scuff the surface.
- Wipe down with Krud Kutter and Scrubby Sponge.
- Remove trim and feet. Sand bottom so the dresser is level.
- Apply foot plate hardware. Screw in new Bun Feet.
I originally planned to use a darker purple color on this, but the weather was just complicating things. I remember I had this color in my inventory, waiting for the perfect piece and I knew it would look great on this semi-modern piece. I sprayed three coats of “Ever After” and chose not to distress.
I also wanted to have some shine on this piece, so I sprayed three coats of General Finishes HPTC in Satin. This is my go-to polyurethane and sheen for clear coats. It’s easy to work with and sprays well. I rarely have any issues while using it.
The hardware on this was not original. I actually salvaged this from other dressers and chests over the years, but the lines of the piece and the color make this hardware style compliment the chest very well! All it needed was a little Rub ‘N Buff in Antique Gold to give it a cohesive and feminine look.
Clearly the paper is my favorite detail! I previously used this navy poppy paper on another purple piece, but it matched perfectly with this color too. I just love how small details like paper and tear drop hardware can pull a piece together so well. This chest actually sold a while back and made it’s way down to Ocala, Florida. I’m glad it found a great home.
If you love this color, Country Chic Paint still has limited stock left. So hurry over to grab yourself a pint, but while you’re at it…here is a coupon code for a discount.
