If I had to pick some of my favorite projects to do, it would be small end tables and “1-hour” projects. I feel that instant gratification that comes with getting a few projects done quickly and I’m always really excited to play around with fun colors. This time around, I was really excited about this project because of the unique color, Country Chic Paint’s Fall Limited Edition Color “Strength”.

This year Country Chic Paint wanted to something special to bring Cancer awareness and to celebrate the lives of survivors, family members, friends and supporters. It’s frightening to think how many people are touched with some form of cancer, and how much it resonates through communities of every kind. This color, Strength specifically represents the Prostate Cancer Awareness Ribbon, and speaks highly to the masculinity of this color.
The Prep:
- Remove old hardware and drawer.
- Vacuum with Shopvac in drawer spaces, in and underneath the drawers and behind/bottom of chest.
- Clean dresser with Simple Green, hot water and Scrubby Sponges.
- Fill chipped veneer with Elmer’s ProBond Wood Filler.
- Sand with 150 grit paper to remove older finish. Finish with 220.
- Clean top with mineral spirits to check for blotches.
- Apply 3 coats of Spray Shellac for tannin bleeding.
After the table was prepped, it was time for paint. I sprayed 3 coats of CCP Strength for full coverage and lightly distressed for effect. I love the clean distressed lines on small pieces with lots of details like the spindles in traditional 60’s maple furniture. Its so easy to update the look with just a bit of paint!
After the paint had dried for 72 hours, I sprayed three coats of General Finish High Performance Top Coat in Satin. I imagined this being a nightstand in a little boys room, or as a small accent piece in a living room or entryway. Even though blue tends to lean towards a masculine color, this smokey blue is really a fun pop of color to compliment lots of decor themes. Heck it even looked great in my monochromatic home.
I stained the top with Rustoleum “Dark Walnut” stain. I have always loved how warm and rich this stain looks over maple. It looks great paired with this color and of course a pewter cup pull just touches it with some rustic flare.
Of course the paper just surprises you! I bet you though I put in some neutral masculine paper to match, but when you open the drawer you find this pretty floral paper called “Fairy Blush.” I found it on Spoonflower and it has always been one of my favorite prints of theirs. So with the end of this project, I just want to remind you, if you choose to buy Country Chic Paint, keep in mind there are 5 tickets hidden inside jars of these limited edition colors.
