Hi Everyone! I’m blogging tonight from the lovely state of New Mexico as I’m here for my day job. Although I’m here for work, I’ve found some extra time for myself to catch up on some much needed tasks like enjoying extra large sangrias and indulging in tasty green chile. I promised myself I would post at least two blog posts while I am here so this is the first.

The Look
I knew when I bought this piece that I wanted the top drawers to appear as three separate drawers versus the one that it truly is. I also wanted to give this a bright and airy look with a touch of industrial, so I went with General Finishes Antique White for the base. I chose not to fill the grain on the oak veneer because I wanted it to appear rustic to fit into a beach house or farmhouse styled home.
I did strip and sand the drawers to bare wood and sealed them with General Finishes HPTC in Satin. Even though this side table is veneer over MDF, the oak veneer was too pretty to stain and the clear coat over the top just gave the drawers a refreshing look.
This was probably one of the easiest projects I’ve worked on, or at least I thought so until it came time to add the hardware. I absolutely love these aged steel/iron pulls from Hobby Lobby. I think they would look good on any piece of furniture and it makes adding the screws easy when you don’t have to mark and pilot hole new hardware holes. The hardest part about adding these was making sure they were centered and level. Adding the zinc screws moved them as I used a power drill to secure them so I was using the level after every screw to line them up again.
And thats it folks! I kept is short and sweet in part because I’m exhausted and because the details really are in the photos. My process is mostly always the same and if you are a regular reader of my blog, you know I properly prepped, cleaned and finished the piece the same way I always do. We’ll see which project will be next!
