One thing I love about small pieces, is that they can make a huge statement. Sometimes it’s those little tables or benches that you have stashed away in places no one will notice that are really super stars waiting to break through with a fresh coat of paint. When I came across this victorian bench on Offerup I knew I had to go bold. Those legs!

One thing I didn’t notice immediately from this photo, was that the top was on backwards. I had to correct that by prying out the nails and flipping it around so the curves on top line up with the curves on the base. It was also caked on with some sort of poly/stain mixture and had massive drips everywhere. No problem, a little distressing can take care of that!
I have to say that this color is gorgeous! It’s “Cranberry” by Fusion Mineral Paint. It’s a new color that was released this fall and perfect for those who love crimson and deep red, sangria colored furniture. Two coats for full coverage were added but if you want the color to meld with a base, I’d suggest using just one and distress where needed.
I used my orbital sander to distress and bring out the finish underneath. All the curves and nook and crannies really look great on this little bench with such a pretty color. There is a ton of depth and dimension…and this bench is under two feet tall!
I applied two coats of General Finishes HPTC in “Gloss.” The light shining on the gloss in all the right places just draws your attention to the turned legs. I rarely use gloss poly unless it is requested, but this piece just called for it.
I really hope to do another piece in this color soon! It does make for a hard sell since the color typically only appeals to a limited number of buyers, but I think in the right home, with the right decor, this color can make a statement anywhere. I did another piece in a similar color using GF paints and I called it “Sangria.” But mixing paints is hard if you try to replicate the color without writing down the recipe. Fusion already has this pretty color ready to go! Give it a try!
